Advertising Is Meant To Entertain
Brands Get Exposed - Minds Get Moving;
Who Is Asia’s Next Creative Talent?

Show-business meets the ad business as
10 young creative hopefuls compete for their
dream job in Madison Avenue

Ever thought about what actually goes into making a successful ad campaign? Well everything that happens behind-the-scenes is about to be exposed in the television series, The Ad Break.

Hosted by Sean Cummins, one of the regions most notable creative minds and creator of the Best Job in the World campaign, contestants will be tested, tried and worked to the bone in order to prove that they are Asia’s next biggest creative talent.

Over a series of challenges, with a grand prize to be won, contestants will have to brainstorm, strategise and pitch their way into a boardroom of critical judges. For the very first time on Asian television, watch the process of advertising – reality show style – as it entertains, engages and inspires audiences across the map.

COMPETITION BEGINS
Successful ad campaigns begin with a story. Television series The Ad Break is searching for a winning story in the form of Asia’s next biggest creative talent.

The series begins with filling “The Vacancy”. A regional search for new ad talent begins with a job advertisement where shortlisted contestants endure a nail-biting audition process.

Each week, 10 advertising contestant hopefuls, with the guidance from a panel of advertising experts, are faced with a case study of a specific product category.

It’s not what you know, but who you know. Sean Cummins, host of The Ad Break, personally introduces the contestants to the client who then presents the contestant with the all-important brief. The pitching process begins and the top two creative solutions then launch the hopefuls to the next level.

The two winners must execute their final pitch with the help of a professional support team. This puts their execution and management skills to the greatest test of all.

A weekly cash prize and grand prize of $5,000 a once in a lifetime opportunity of a traineeship at coveted Madison Avenue agency is up for grabs!

ice-TV catches up with the show's ultimate design winner, David Tang

Reality TV show, HP SPACE, gave 16 contestants from across the region an opportunity to show just how awesome and creative they really were.

After a far and wide search for Asia’s most creative minds, ice-TV found that, “there’s only space for the best” right here in Asia. Reality TV show, HP SPACE, gave 16 contestants from across the region an opportunity to show just how awesome and creative they really were.

It was a battle of design, wit and personalities. Contestants from diverse spectrum of industries and skill levels spent eight grueling weeks challenging their talents as creative thinkers and do-ers. Drama? Yes. Tears and sweat? Plenty. But, when it came down to the final round, Singapore-based art director, David Tang, won the hearts of the judges with his unique charm, undeniable skill and grinding hard work.

Ice-TV checks up on how Tang’s life has changed after the show.

Sean Cummins talks about his plans for his next advertising adventure with ice-TV.

Considered one of the most high profile, creative and exuberant admen in the industry, Sean Cummins talks about his experience on reality TV show HP SPACE, his insight on advertising, and plans for his next advertising adventure with ice-TV.

When we first met Sean Cummins it was instant chemistry. Maybe it was his friendly Aussie demeanor or his articulate way of making everything that came out of his mouth sound so refreshing and compelling – perhaps it was both. In any case, we were sold.

Probably most well known for creating the global campaign, Best Job in the World, Cummins was the perfect judge and mentor on reality TV show HP SPACE.

Just fresh from selling off his shares from the ad agency that he had founded in 1997, Cummins was ready to take a break from the advertising world. With over 25 years of experience, HP SPACE was a fantastic platform to express his expertise to a hungry generation of creative thinkers.

“HP SPACE was a blast! It is an intelligent show that makes the invisible process of creativity visible,” says Cummins. “For the HP brand was a stroke of genius because it is the perfect demonstration of their product – in all its applications. It is an idea that could go into any market in the world and has enormous appeal.”

When asked where he thought advertising was heading, he expressed that the hot areas of interest are social networks, ambient “pop-up” marketing, product placement, branded content, sponsorships and anything digital.

On the topic of branded content:

“Good branded content must be like any form of television. It must be entertaining, engaging and fun. People also like stories and characters,” says Cummins. “The reality show style creates that opportunity for brands because the contestants become the characters.”

“Branded Content, done well, forces people to tune in to your message: To make an appointment to see your brand. And it doesn’t get any more powerful than that!”

As Cummins continues to enjoy his “ad-break”, exiting the advertising world completely is definitely not on his agenda. For a man who’s spent his career being totally passionate about creative ideas, Cummins and ice-TV are currently working on a brand new TV series based on the core process of advertising – the “show-business of business”.

“The hardest thing about advertising is actually breaking into it. Because its so hard to know people’s abilities just by judging an art folio, or a TV reel. You don’t know how they are as creative people. Are they moody, quiet, surly? Are they Divas? Are they precious?” explains Cummins.

“I think a show that exposes the types of people that make up the creative department is a fascinating opportunity to create compelling television.”

This new project sees Sean Cummins and the creators of HP SPACE David Searl and Sham Baharom join together again to bring creativity to life.
