After a far and wide search for Asia’s most creative minds, ice-TV found that, “there’s only space for the best” right here in Asia. Reality TV show, HP SPACE, gave 16 contestants from across the region an opportunity to show just how awesome and creative they really were.
It was a battle of design, wit and personalities. Contestants from diverse spectrum of industries and skill levels spent eight grueling weeks challenging their talents as creative thinkers and do-ers. Drama? Yes. Tears and sweat? Plenty. But, when it came down to the final round, Singapore-based art director, David Tang, won the hearts of the judges with his unique charm, undeniable skill and grinding hard work.
Ice-TV checks up on how Tang’s life has changed after the show.
| ice-TV: | So how’s life been after winning HP SPACE? |
| David Tang: | Things have been great. I moved back home to Sydney in preparation for the Bubblegum Crisis job. But, before it starts, I’m taking some time off to work on a graphic novel and to catch up with friends and family. I’ve also been taking a lot of afternoon naps… |
| ice-TV: | Have the ladies been queuing outside your doorstep as you predicted? |
| David Tang: | Not… really. |
| ice-TV: | So how have you been spending the 50,000 USD prize money? |
| David Tang: | I bought some gifts for my family and am putting the rest of the money towards buying an apartment. |
| ice-TV: | Besides landing a once in a lifetime gig on the film, Bubblegum Crisis, any other future plans? |
| David Tang: | I hope to finish the graphic novel I’m working on later this year and will submit it to various publishers. The “untitled” graphic novel is about my two years living in Singapore, with HP SPACE, obviously taking up a huge chapter in the book. Once I finish work on Bubblegum Crisis, I plan on moving to New York City for a few years. |
| ice-TV: | How would you describe your experience on HP SPACE? |
| David Tang: | It was by far one of the toughest things I’ve had to do; it was two months of intense work, very little sleep, and insane levels of stress. I probably made many mistakes along the way, but throughout the competition I did the best that I could. It was a terrific experience. I got to work on some really cool challenges and met some great people. It’ll be something that I will remember for a long time to come. |
